Health care day set for seniors

Seniors are invited to join Las Vegas Councilman Gary Reese, the Senior Citizens Law Project and the Nevada Center for Ethics and Health Policy for the second annual Southern Nevada Health Care Planning Day event from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the East Las Vegas Community Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

The senior seminar is available for seniors ages 60 and older. Attorneys will be available to provide pro bono legal information, including entitlement assistance, directive to physician, durable power of attorney for health care and more. There will also be medical screening, entertainment and food.

Peace negotiator to speak Wednesday

Middle East peace negotiator Dennis Ross will be speaking at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane.

Ross, adjunct lecturer in public policy, distinguished fellow and counselor at the Washington Institute Near Policy, and recipient of honorary doctorates from the Jewish Theological Seminary and Syracuse University, will discuss the Middle East and prospects for peace.

The lecture is free, but reservation are required.

Seniors to get tips on pet health

Las Vegas Valley Senior Friends presents Health Care Options for Your Pet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the MountainView office, 8524 Del Webb Blvd.

Join local veterinarian Dr. Toby Goldman for an informative seminar on health care for your pet.

Goldman treats everything from exotic critters to reptiles to fish and white tigers. Learn how to use conventional healing therapies complemented by herbs, diets, supplements, home remedies and orthopedic manipulation.

The Art Educators of Nevada

invites the public to view the Art People's Park at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the outside food quad, in front of the Engineering School on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus. The display of silhouette figures were designed by students, teachers, parents, and artists from Clark County. The figures will be on display now through May 3. Call 799-5660.

The Henderson Parks and Recreation

Department and Senior Dimensions' Fit for Life Club are co-hosting semi-annual fitness assessments for seniors (ages 60 and up) from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway. Participation is free, but seniors must register in advance to pick up consent forms, which must be completed prior to testing. For more information, call 877-5356.

The Latin Chamber of Commerce

is asking for volunteers to speak to local high school students. One of the components of the mentoring program is for the volunteers to speak about their professions. The LCC need volunteers for the month of April and May. For more information, call 383-3714.
