CEO resigns

Siegel, 42, joined the airline in March 2002, led it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year and angered unions in December with more cost-cutting plans. He said in a statement that his departure would let the seventh-largest U.S. carrier begin "a healing process" to make needed changes.

US Airways is seeking more concessions from its pilots in contract talks and has asked other workers to prepare for cuts. The company, which posted losses of $188 million in the past two quarters, faces new competition from Southwest Airlines Co. at its hub airport in Philadelphia starting next month.
