Henderson Police arrested a man this morning on charges of stabbing his brother Sunday night, police said.

The victim was being treated for his injuries at University Medical Center.

Girl injured after running onto street

A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured Friday after she darted in front of a motorcycle near Cheyenne Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, Metro Police said.

The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. on Mount Roy Lane near French Creek Court. The girl was walking on the sidewalk on Mount Roy, then ran into the street, apparently trying to cross it, Detective Doug Nutton said.

Dushawn Pitchford, 35, of Las Vegas was driving a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle west on Mount Roy and tried to stop but the front of his bike hit the girl, knocking her to the ground.

The girl was taken to University Medical Center because of life-threatening injuries. Pitchford was not injured, police said. The crash remains under investigation.

Boulder Highway crash kills driver

A 68-year-old Las Vegas man was killed about 11:30 a.m. Friday as he pulled out of the Boulder Station onto Boulder Highway, Trooper Angie Wolff of the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The man, identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Shaun Morris, entered the path of an oncoming minivan driven by a Las Vegas woman. The minivan struck the driver's side of Morris' four-door Honda, killing him on impact.

The minivan driver was taken to a hospital to be treated for moderate injuries. Two children, ages 1 and 3, who were in the minivan were not hurt, Wolff said.

Banker sentenced to 18 months

A Las Vegas man who pleaded guilty to manipulating secured loans at Norwest bank, causing a loss of nearly $700,000, was sentenced to 18 months in prison Friday by U.S. District Court Judge Lloyd George.

Peter Tsou worked as a loan officer at the bank and pleaded guilty to being a part of the conspiracy that occurred from November 1998 through January 1999.

The conspiracy involved opening bank accounts that would then be used as collateral for loans, for which Tsou served as loan officer. Tsou would then remove the hold status on the original accounts, allowing applicants to withdraw the collateral money and the loan.

The money could then be rolled over to another account, allowing applicants to draw additional loans, according to the indictment.

Tsou was also ordered to pay more than $695,000 in restitution.

Woman enters plea on tax charges

The last of three defendants charged in a 33-count federal indictment alleging tax evasion and aiding in the filing of hundreds of false tax returns was arraigned Friday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen entered a plea of not guilty for Cynthia Neun, 50, and set her trial for June 21 with her co-defendants Lawrence N. Cohen, 63, and Irwin Schiff, 76.

Leen had entered pleas of not guilty for Schiff and Cohen earlier in the week.

The government alleges that the defendants sell anti-tax books and materials at Schiff's East Sahara Avenue bookstore, Freedom Books, and have been running a tax scam that has cost the government an estimated $56 million.

Utilities work closes beltway

The Las Vegas Beltway was closed to traffic almost for 12 hours while two utility companies installed services between Rainbow and Decatur boulevards on Sunday.

The Clark County Public Works Department had announced the stretch of beltway would be closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

However, it took Nevada Power Co. and Southwest Gas crews longer than expected to complete their work, officials said.

Nevada Power had to install lines underground instead of between power poles.

Man accused in Missouri fires

A man arrested in Las Vegas last month had allegedly set more than a dozen mobile house fires in Missouri so he was sent back to that state Friday to face 11 felony counts of arson.

Rodney Bradley, 42 escaped from a county jail in Missouri on Jan. 23 and fled to Las Vegas, where he was arrested March 30, authorities said.

Bradley allegedly rigged his motorcycle with a spray tank full of gasoline to set fires to homes in a small Missouri lake community late last year.
