Valley grad earns Air Force award

Airman 1st Class Shean Leigon, son of Richard and Laura Leigon and grandson of Ralph Leigon, all of Las Vegas, is a 2003 winner of the Lt. Gen. Leo Marquez Maintenance Award for the Air Forces Europe Command. In addition to winning the coveted General Marquez Trophy, Leigon was selected as Airman of the Year for the 31st Operations, Group, 31st Fighter Wing, Aviano Air Base, Italy.

The Marquez Trophy recognizes excellence in maintenance operations in the cataegories of aircraft, munitions and communications maintenance. Leigon, currently deployed to Iraq, is a communications maintenance specialist who maintains ground to air and satellite communications equipment vital to air superiority and close air support for Operation Iraqi Freedom and the war on terrorism.

Books for Soldiers

Individuals seeking ways to support service members engaged in the war on terrorism may be interested in a unique Web site titled "Books for Soldiers." Sponsors of the site ship books, DVDs and other supplies to service members serving around the world.

They accept donations of old, but usable books, and the site includes a registration feature allowing visitors to register a service member's mailing address or request an address to send books to.
