James L. Christensen

James L. Christensen, 69, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A retired supervisor for a newspaper and an avid horse racing fan, he was born April 12, 1935, in Green Bay, Wis.

He is survived by his wife, Maggie; two sons, James Christensen of Yorba Linda, Calif., and John Christensen of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; one brother, John Christensen of Terra Bella, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

Leslie Eileen Gorr

Leslie Eileen Gorr, 56, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 13, 1947, in Melrose Park, Ill. A resident for 20 years, she was a computer operator at UNLV for 17 years.

She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Mildred E. and Ruben Pardo of Las Vegas; one brother, Frederick Gorr of Florida; one sister, Sharon Kaldeberger of Wisconsin.

American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, is handling private arrangements.

Lucy Greenberg

Lucy Greenberg, 89, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born April 16, 1914, in Colorado. A resident for 52 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean Greenburg.

Visitation is scheduled noon-1:30 p.m. Friday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Betty Jackson

Betty Jackson, 81, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Cohoes, N.Y. A resident for two months, she was a retired secretary, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 2126, and a former member of St. Barbara's Circle, Moose Auxiliary and Club C in Dallas, Ore.

She is survived by one daughter, Sheila Chaffee; three brothers, Raymond C. Bariteau, William Bariteau and James Bariteau, and three sisters, Beatrice Gardner, Theresa Weeks and Barbara A. Bull, all of Troy, N.Y.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is arranging a pending memorial service.

Charles D. James

Charles D. James, 63, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. He was born Jan. 17, 1941, in Missouri. A resident for 22 years, he was a hotel security officer.

He is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Vinyard of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers, Donald James of St. Charles and Harold James of St. Joseph, Mo.; two sisters, Glenda Reese of Portal Bluff, Mo., and Brenda Branneky of Richmond, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be in Missouri.

Bessie Kassai

Bessie Kassai, 86, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Las Vegas. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Julie Scarine of Las Vegas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation is private. Burial will be in Arizona. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Gregory Jay Lamb

Gregory Jay Lamb, 51, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born June 26, 1952, in Westwood, Calif. A resident for 18 years, he was an automotive warehouse manager.

He is survived by his parents, Lester and Elizabeth Lamb of Las Vegas; one brother, Les C. Lamb of La Mirada, Calif.; one sister, Kathy Malmfeldt of Burbank, Calif.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is assisting with private arrangements in Los Angeles.

Charles J. 'Button' Matthews

Charles J. "Button" Matthews, 85, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born March 3, 1919, in Cottonwood, Okla. A resident for 42 years, he was a retired oil drilling superintendent, a World War II Army veteran and a member of Operating Engineers Local 12.

He is survived by his wife, Violette; three sons, Paul Matthews and Charles N. Matthews, both of Las Vegas, and Tommy D. Matthews of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Edmundo R. Moniz Jr.

Edmundo R. Moniz Jr., 24, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 4, 1979, in Alameda, Calif. A resident for one year, he was a retired clerk.

He is survived by his mother, Lorinda M. Nunez of Las Vegas; his father, Edmundo Rodrigues Moniz Sr. of San Lorenzo, Calif.; and four sisters, Lorraine M. Moniz of Tracy, Calif., and Teresa Moniz, Regina Moniz and Naomi Moniz, all of San Lorenzo.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Eastern.

Lucille A. Nesbitt, 84, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born May 19, 1919, in Colorado. A resident for 38 years, she was a retired records manager for Metro Police.

She is survived by one son, Myron Adams; one daughter, Choral Lee Reid; and three grandchildren.

Holly Y. Nicholas

Holly Y. Nichols, 68, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. A homemaker, she was born Dec. 24, 1935, in Milford, Utah.

She is survived by her husband, Bob Nicholas; two sons, George McClousky and Leslie McClousky, both of Gardnerville.

Joshua O'Neal Jr.

Joshua O'Neal Jr., 65, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1938, in St. Joseph, La. A resident for 39 years, he was a driver for Republic Disposal Service.

He is survived by his wife, Polly; five daughters, Debra Rogers, Sonya Stinnett, Tammy Brumfield, Starqueisha O'Neal and Lizzie O'Neal, all of Las Vegas; four sons, Gary Stinnett and Joshua O'Neal III, both of Los Angeles, and Patrick Stinnett and Ricky O'Neal, both of Las Vegas; his mother, Lizzie Taylor, and two brothers, Roosevelt O'Neal and Bruce Hicks, all of Los Angeles; seven sisters, Charlene Washington and Carrie Glaspie, both of Los Angeles, Donna O'Neal of Seattle, Gloria Williams of Tallulah, La., Lillie Smith and Lucille Henderson, both of Las Vegas, and Vernia Coleman of Fort Washington, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Friday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Zion Methodist Church, 2108 N. Revere St. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

LaVerne B. Peters

LaVerne B. Peters, 50, of North Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born June 10, 1953, in Flint, Mich. A resident for nine years, he was a sanitation worker.

He is survived by two brothers, Mark Peters of Lennon, Mich., and Gilbert Peters of Flint, Mich.; and four sisters, Markeda Johnson and Marcia Peters, both of Flint, Terry Harris of Atlanta and Gloria Pittman of Los Angeles.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Marie H. Polwort

Marie H. Polwort, 90, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 26, 1914, in Crescent, Okla. A resident for 33 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Lanny Polwort of Seattle, Bruce Polwort of Roseville, Calif., and Robert Polwort and Gary Polwort, both of Las Vegas; one daughter, Glenda Roberts of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Pete Norman of Abeline, Texas, and Tommy Norman of Perry, Okla.; three sisters, Betty Helberg of Enid, Okla., Dorothy Mogab of New Orleans and Tootie Bingston of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Friday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Eden Vale Mausoleum.

Kayola Smith

Kayola Smith, 69, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a California hospital. She was born May 19, 1934, in Henrieville, Utah. A resident for 45 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, James C.; one daughter, Michelle Smith, and two sons, John Smith and James P. Smith, all of Las Vegas; one stepdaughter, Sherry Smith of Albuquerque; one brother, Frank Savage Jr., and two sisters, Sandra Meschnark and Carol Sullivan, both of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 2 p.m. service Friday in the LDS Las Vegas Stake Center. Graveside services will be in Utah. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Rosaria Smith, 78, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Chicago. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by five daughters, Joyce DeLaRosa of Whittier, Calif., Donna Green of Wasilla, Alaska, Karen Bland of Mason, Wash., Rosemarie Beebe of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Elsie Johnson of Martinez, Calif.; and five sons, Bob Smith of Las Vegas, John Smith of Omaha, Neb., Greg Smith of Fairbanks, Alaska, Kenneth Smith of Fitchburg, Mass., and Richard Smith of Junction City, Kan.

Visitation is scheduled 5 p.m. until a 7 p.m. rosary today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Carmelina 'Lee' Tabor

Carmelina "Lee" Tabor, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Middletown, Conn. A resident for 51 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Steven Tabor and Ken Tabor, both of Las Vegas; two daughters, Marianne Louk of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Susan Dodge of Las Vegas; three sisters, Josephine Tabor and Lucy Cichon, both of Las Vegas, and Mary Way of Phoenix; three brothers, Rosario Greco, Vincent Greco and Sebastian Greco, all of Connecticut; and seven grandchildren.

Howard Arnold Trelstad aka Johnny Gunn

Howard Arnold Trelstad aka Johnny Gunn, 64, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. A business owner, he was born June 14, 1939, in Redwing, Minn.

He is survived by two sons, Howard Arnold Trelstad and Harry Arnold Trelstad, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Donovan Roy Trelstad of Escondido, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled at 3 p.m. today in Summerlin Evangelical Church. Burial will be in Maine. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

William Zachery Whaley

William Zachery Whaley, 28, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. He was born March 20, 1976, in Atlanta. A resident for 20 years, he was a gaming technician.

He is survived by his mother, Tamera J. Blair of Henderson; his father, William Whaley of Cedar City, Utah; four sisters, Tina Randall of Las Vegas, Tara Whaley of Henderson and Katherine Whaley and Nicole Whaley, both of Cedar City; three brothers, Jason N. Whaley of Cedar City and Mathew R. Whaley and Nicolas Blair, both of Las Vegas; and his grandmother, Martha Wiebe of Cedar City.

Robert J. Young

Robert J. Young, 66, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born March 19, 1938, in Milwaukee. A resident for 28 years, he was a retired government electronics technician, a Vietnam War Air Force veteran, a member of Coasters Bowling, Sun City Senior Softball and Sun City Table Tennis.

He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann; one son, Mark A. Young, and one daughter, Wendy A. Wasiak, and his mother, Clara Young, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Michael Young of Tucson; one stepbrother, Richard Jung of Cedarburg, Wis.; and two grandchildren.

Phillis J. Zottoli, 63, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. A homemaker, she was born Sept. 30, 1940, in New Hampshire.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; one son, Frank Zottoli Jr.. of Tewksbury, Mass.; two daughters, Laura (Zottoli) Ferrante of Phoenix and Patricia (Zottoli) De Velif of New Hampshire; one sister, Marilyn Vase of California; her mother, Corrine Robinson of New Hampshire; and five grandchildren.
