Ethics panel, Deane fail to reach deal
Thursday, April 15, 2004 | 9:36 a.m.
Clark County Recorder Frances Deane spent about two hours in a closed-door session with the Nevada Ethics Commission on Wednesday, but it appeared she could not reach a settlement on charges that she used her position for personal gain.
The commission was scheduled on its agenda to consider a "proposed stipulation," or a written plea deal, concerning Deane's case.
But Commission Chairman Rick Hsu said: "It has been agreed by mutual consent that this item has been withdrawn from the agenda."
Deane is facing complaints that she gave preferential treatment to title companies and that she helped set up a Web site that would give Internet access to documents provided by free by the recorder's office.
A formal hearing is scheduled for June 9-10.
