Letter: Costs spiral on Medicare’s dime
Wednesday, April 14, 2004 | 8:29 a.m.
I recently spent time in the hospital and rehab, both here in town, the first for many years. I was aware that Medicare doesn't pay for everything, but surprised at the number of bills arriving in my mailbox from "invisible doctors"(doctors I've never seen or heard of).
Regretfully, I missed them during my stay. I would have liked the opportunity of asking, Dr. Who? From where? What subsequent care? Curiosity gets the better of me. Is Medicare an easy touch for every claim that arrives in their offices nationwide? If so, Medicare is in trouble!
