Gazlay trial is moved to July

Alleged 311 Boyz member Steven Gazlay has jury trials scheduled for May, June and July in his three remaining cases.
The 19-year-old is scheduled to begin trial May 25, along with eight other co-defendants, on 12 felony charges including attempted murder. The charges stem from the attack last summer that left 17-year-old Stephen Tanner Hansen with a crushed face.
On June 28 Gazlay will face one felony count of destruction of personal property for allegedly ramming a security gate with a truck last fall. And on July 19 he is scheduled to be tried on one count of battery with use of a deadly weapon for allegedly burning another teen with a butter knife at a party in May 2003.
The butter knife case was originally scheduled to go to trial in February but was delayed because Gazlay switched attorneys. On Tuesday the trial was rescheduled for July because of all the other cases still pending.
Gazlay is now in the Clark County Detention Center awaiting an evidentiary hearing in a battery case for which he was convicted in December. His attorney, Luis Palazzo, has asked for a new trial in that case, citing a new eyewitness he claims can exonerate his client.
District Judge Valerie Adair agreed to postpone sentencing Gazlay in the case for the third time Friday, but still judged him to be guilty of battery with use of a deadly weapon and assault with use of a deadly weapon.
Adair ordered Gazlay to be jailed until the May 14 evidentiary hearing. He had been free on bonds of more than $90,000 for his four cases.
In addition to the criminal cases, Gazlay and 13 other 311 Boyz have been sued by Sean Quinn, one of the victims Gazlay was convicted of hitting with a crowbar.
