UMC called family resource center

Tuesday, April 13, 2004 | 8:37 a.m.

University Medical Center has been designated as a state Family Resource Center for central Las Vegas, encompassing the ZIP codes 89101, 89102, 89104, 89106 and 89107.

The designation brings UMC a grant of $150,761 to provide services to families.

Family Resource Centers were established by the Legislature in 1995 to allow at-risk families to be assessed for their eligibility for social services, receive referrals and obtain social services close to where they live.

UMC offers immunizations and well-baby checks, parenting classes and support groups, health care and information and referrals for senior citizens who need help. The grant will allow UMC to expand its Resource Lending Library and its classes.
