National landmarks sought in Nevada

Nevada has only six designated national landmarks, but state Historic Preservation Officer Ron James wants to change that. He has been named to the National Landmarks Committee that reviews nominations to the nation's list of historic landmarks.
James will be the only member from the West on the committee that advises the National Park Service.
"Our state and region have been underserved by this aspect of the National Park Service and I plan to use my tenure on the committee to create a broader understanding of the West's role in our nation's history," James said.
Nevada has 327 buildings, sites and district listed on the National Register of Historic Places but only six are designated national landmarks.
They are Hoover Dam, the Newlands Mansion in Reno, the Virginia City Landmark District, Fort Ruby in White Pine County, Fort Churchill in Lyon County and the Leonard Rock Shelter in Pershing County.
