Letter: President’s term has been terrible

Americans should realize the desperate situation our country and its military are in because of President Bush's uncalled-for and precipitous attack on Iraq.
Our brave military were so highly successful precisely because Saddam did not have the weapons of mass destruction that the administration claimed he had. In addition, the Bush administration never planned for the peace, and our military, without orders to the contrary, stood by as mobs looted and ransacked the country.
Since then going on 700 GIs have died as Bush tries to impose a democracy on a population that has no concept of what that means, with different Moslem sects that have never cooperated with one another. Many of their religious leaders have called for attacks on the infidels, and recent firing on mosques, though militarily necessary, can only inflame the whole Moslem world.
Americans now are unsafe not only in Iraq, but throughout the entire region. George W. Bush's term in office has been a disaster for our country and its people, and he should be turned out in November.
