Seniors to get some travel tips

Senior Friends is offering a class on Travel Safety Tips from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the MountainView Senior Friends Center, 8524 Del Webb Blvd., and from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Green Valley Senior Friends Center, 2809 N. Green Valley Parkway.

Anne McCall of Tours of Distinction and Eric Sheppard of Collette Vacations will present tips to stay safe and healthy when you travel.

Saks event will benefit cancer center

Saks Fifth Avenue presents "The Vegas Dozen: 2004 the Men We Love and Why We Love Them," an event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Saks, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South, to benefit the Nevada Cancer Institute.

Phyllis McGuire will be the master of ceremonies.

The institute's mission is to develop a world-class comprehensive care facility dedicated to state-of-the-art research and implementation of groundbreaking methods of cancer prevention, detection, treatment, outreach and education.

Child abuse awareness program scheduled

In recognition of National Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention month, District Court and the CASA Program will host the fifth annual Light of Hope ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Family Court Atrium, 601 N. Pecos Road, to recognize the need of permanent, loving homes for child victims of abuse and neglect.

Beginning at noon, the community is invited to visit the Family Court Atrium where over 20 child welfare service, treatment providers and adoption agencies will be available to answer questions and provide information about their services to children and families in the community.

Included in the group will be adoption and foster care agencies, as well as protective and therapeutic services.

During the ceremony, candles will be lit symbolizing the promise of safety and permanency to children with abusive and neglectful backgrounds.
