Gazlay trial delayed again

Attorneys met in the chambers of District Court Judge Valerie Adair this morning to discuss whether the sentencing hearing of alleged 311 Boyz member Steven Gazlay -- set for Friday -- should be delayed a third time.
Gazlay, 19, was convicted Dec. 15 of felony assault and battery charges in the May beating of 21-year-old Sean Quinn. Gazlay has maintained his innocence and said he was not a member of the 311 Boyz, a group of youths police allege were responsible for staging fights and beatings in northwest Las Vegas neighborhoods.
In a motion filed Tuesday for a third continuance of his client's sentencing, attorney Louis Palazzo claims a new witness has come forward who says Gazlay did not participate in the attack on Quinn.
The witness, Cheyenne High School student Megan McCoy, did not step forward earlier because she feared retribution, a legal assistant to Palazzo said this morning.
Gazlay's sentencing was initially delayed Feb. 17 because the Parole and Probation Department failed to interview him, as required.
