SEATTLE -- General Electric Co. and Rolls Royce PLC will supply the engines for a planned new Boeing Co. jet designed to be more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly than similar airplanes flying today.
Pratt & Whitney, the No. 3 commercial engine maker, was the loser in the three-way competition, which ended Tuesday with Boeing's announcement.
The contracts to supply the engines could be worth as much as $40 billion if Boeing's projections for the airplane market are correct, said Paul Nisbet, an analyst with JSA Research.
