BLM land auction set for June 2

Wednesday, April 7, 2004 | 10:42 a.m.

The Bureau of Land Management said it will put up 71 parcels totaling 2,532 acres of land at its June 2 public auction at Sam's Town, 5111 Boulder Highway. Appraisals for the land total more than $309.7 million.

To be included in the auction is 1,940 acres in Henderson that went unsold at a November auction. The appraised value, and opening bid, for that parcel remains the same: $250 million. Dozens of smaller parcels, ranging in size from 1.25 acres to 10 acres, will be offered along with larger parcels, including 354 acres near Southern Highlands.

Bidders for the two largest parcels must submit 20 percent of the appraised value in certified funds to the BLM before the auction, BLM officials said. People who want to bid on the other parcels must put down $10,000 in certified funds.

The money will be applied to the 20 percent down payment required from the winner the day of the auction. Losers will have their money returned. People who default on their bid will lose their deposit and any other money put down.
