Going to cleaners can help homeless

Village East Cleaners will hold its 10th annual clothing drive to benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada in conjunction with the grand opening of its new store, 1760 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, Henderson.

Coats, clothes and shoes can be dropped off at all Village East Cleaner locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. now through Friday. Other locations are 11041 S. Eastern Ave., 2301 E. Sunset Road, 5025 S. Eastern Ave. and 5645 S. Eastern Ave.

The donated clothes will be given to the homeless and low-income men, women, and children seeking assistance from Catholic Charities.

Denny's conducts food drive

Local Denny's restaurants will conduct a food drive to benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada now through Friday.

The food collected will help the homeless and working poor who receive assistance from Catholic Charities. Denny's is asking their customers to bring canned and nonperishable food to each restaurant.

'Urban Artists' scheduled Saturday

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will host "Urban Artists," a communal arts presentation of poetry, spoken word, rhymes, music, dance and dramatic readings at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

Spoken word artist Isaac Sawyer, performing artist Aksis Ajabu and comedy artist Sweet Lou Collins will co-host the event.

Open microphone participation is welcome.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Bolden Area Command

Citizens Advisory Council has been tasked to create a Strategic Plan to assist Metro Police officers assigned to the Bolden Area Command Substation in better patrolling and fighting crime in the West Las Vegas area. Residents are invited to a public forum to give comments on police relations and crime at 6 p.m. Wednesday at victory Baptist Church, 500 E. An Easter egg hunt

will be hosted by the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday for children ages 7-12. Children 6 and under can enjoy storytime while waiting for their egg hunt that begins at 10:45 a.m. The program is free. Call 633-1070.

Boulder City Hospital

will celebrate its 50th anniversary and annual Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the hospital, 901 Adams Blvd. There will be free cholesterol screenings offered. Call 293-4111, Ext. 725.

Cambridge Recreation Center

is offering computer fundamentals classes at 10 a.m. in Spanish and 11 a.m. in English beginning Monday at the recreation center, 3930 Cambridge St. Adult literacy and basic computer education are essential to use the computer and its programs. For more information, call 455-7169.
