Fishing Report: Warmer temperatures bolster success

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Anglers have seen some improvement in the fishing for striped bass in the Boulder Basin and Overton Arm over the past two weeks as a result of warming water temperatures.

Boaters have had good success for stripers recently near the old launch ramp at Las Vegas Wash and around the 33 Hole in the Boulder Basin.

The fish are being caught with anchovies at depths of 40 to more than 100 feet. Most of the stripers weigh about a pound.

Nevada Department of Wildlife creel census clerks checked several boaters Saturday at Overton Beach Marina who said they had fairly good luck for stripers around Fish Island. They were catching fish with anchovies that were around 1 1/2 pounds.

Creel census clerks checked a boater over the weekend that caught several 4-5 pound channel catfish near St. Thomas. Two largemouth bass that weighed 2 pounds each were also caught in the area.

Over the weekend, several stripers weighing from less than a pound to nearly 11 pounds were seen by NDOW creel census clerks at Cottonwood Cove.

The action continues to be slow around Willow Beach with very few stripers or trout now being caught in that area.

NDOW reports the fishing has been fair for trout that weigh around a pound and very good for 2-pound pike. The lake is approximately 7 miles south of Ely along U.S. 93.

Nighttime temperatures were in the high 20s while the daytime temperatures reached the high 50s.

Anglers landed a few rainbow trout that ranged 11-12 inches. PowerBait and spinners were landing the fish.

Nighttime temperatures dropped into the high teens while the daytime temperatures reached the low 50s.
