State, federal and local officials broke ground Monday on a new $15 million building that will be home to the Nevada Highway Patrol's local headquarters and a state-of-the-art traffic control center.
Gov. Kenny Guinn, Nevada Department of Transportation Director Jeff Fontaine, and Rep. Shelley Berkley were among those who helped break ground on the new building located off Interstate 215 at Decatur Boulevard.
Fontaine said the building should open in about one year.
Berkley, who said millions of dollars in federal funds have helped ease traffic congestion problems, noted that the building will bring together some of the region's most critical traffic control functions under one roof.
The building will also house the Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation center.
