New laws set to take effect

CARSON CITY -- More than 170 new laws covering everything from tax increases to restrictions on e-mail go into effect Wednesday in Nevada.
The laws were passed by the Legislature in the regular or special sessions this year but the effective date was delayed to Oct. 1. Lorne Malkiewich, director of the Legislative Counsel Bureau, said this was to give the public a chance to learn about the laws before they are enforced.
Among the new laws to go into effect Wednesday:
In addition, there will be a real estate transfer tax of $1.30 on each $500 of value on any transfer of property.
