Fishing report: Stripers biting in lake’s upper basin

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

NDOW creel census clerk Walter DeMattos reports that anglers continued to be very successful fishing throughout the entire upper basin. Boaters using anchovies landed stripers that measured 12-14 inches in the Overton Beach area.

Stewarts Point and Ann Margaret Cove were productive areas for boaters. Anglers using anchovies were landing fish that measured 14-16 inches.

Boaters fishing near St. Thomas reported good success for small striped bass that measured 12-14 inches. Anchovies were taking the fish.

Anglers report continued success near the islands and close to shore at Callville Bay. Largemouth bass that weighed up to 2 1/2 pounds were caught with crank bait.

Anglers fishing the lower basin reported that fishing has been fair to good for striped bass in the Boulder Basin. Stripers have been caught from shore and boats from Hemenway Harbor to Boulder Beach with the early morning hours being the most productive time of day. Black Island has been a hot spot for boaters.

Cottonwood Cove anglers reported good success for small stripers that measured less than 21 inches. Anchovies were landing the fish.

Anglers fishing Haymeadow Reservoir reported good success for stocked rainbow trout that measured 8-10 inches. Cold Springs Reservoir was producing larger fish that ranged 16-18 inches, but the pace was much slower. PowerBait was landing the fish.

Daytime temperatures were in the low 70s with nights in the upper 30s.
