Amin returns kickoff for TD to lift Coronado
Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 | 10:48 a.m.
Coronado's Ali Amin ran back a kickoff for a touchdown with 10 seconds remaining to lead the Cougars (4-1, 1-0) to a stirring 28-25 victory against Silverado.
It was Coronado's first division win in school history.
Quincy Poole received the ball and was swarmed by Silverado (1-4, 0-1) defenders. Poole pitched to Amin, who took the ball all the way down the right sideline for the winning score.
Amin also caught a touchdown pass from Andrew Hatch. Coronado blew a 22-12 lead before coming back to win.
The Lions (1-4, 0-1) crumbled, though, fumbling a snap on third down deep in their own territory. Western recovered, and then went in for the offensive score.
Las Vegas also got a big game from Stanley Copeland, who scored three touchdowns, including a long interception return. Eldorado (1-4, 0-1) lost its second consecutive game.
Clark (0-5, 0-1) nearly tripled its scoring output from its first four games (13 points).
The Cowboys (2-3, 0-1) dropped their third consecutive game.
Basic (5-0, 0-0) overcame more than 120 yards in penalties by controlling the ball and the clock for most of the game against the Rattlers (1-4, 0-0). Wolves quarterback Chris Montano tossed two touchdown passes to little brother A.J. Montano.
Chris Berkeley went 14-of-30 for 179 yards and two touchdowns, both of which went to Beau Backman, who finished with 110 receiving yards on six catches. Troy Cummings caught three passes for 31 yards for the Mustangs.
Liberty (0-4), a first-year independent, has been outscored 242-0 this season.
