Vegas market remains strong

The Las Vegas housing market boomed in August with 4,697 resales, lifting the year-to-date total to 31,328 sales, a 22 percent increase so far this year, Home Builders Research Inc. reported Wednesday.

Resales were 4,661 in July and 3,496 in August of 2002.

In August there were 2,183 recorded new home sales, bringing the year-to-date total to 15,289, up 4.2 percent. There were 2,057 new home sales in July and 1,899 in August 2002.

Separately, combined U.S. sales of new and existing homes rose to a record 7.62 million annual rate in August, two reports showed today. Rising mortgage rates apparently did not hurt home sales.
