Gazlay enters plea in another case

One of the alleged gang members charged with maiming a 17-year-old boy with a rock pleaded not guilty this morning to an additional felony charge stemming from a separate incident.

Steven Gazlay, 18, pleaded not guilty to a single count of battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm for allegedly burning another teen with a hot butter knife on July 21.

Gazlay entered the plea before District Judge Valorie Vega. The judge also approved Gazlay's posting of a $50,000 bail in the case. A trial date was set for Dec. 8.

Gazlay and eight other teens already faced 13 felony charges in connection with an attack on Stephen Tanner Hansen. Hansen's face was crushed someone by a rock thrown through the windshield of the car in which he was riding.

Police say the teens are part of a gang who call themselves the 311 Boyz. They say the teens waged a string of violent assaults during the summer.
