Letter: Revenge, oil only reasons for war
Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 | 8:49 a.m.
It came as no surprise that Rep. Jim Gibbons, in his "Yes" response printed in Sunday's Las Vegas Sun, used Sept. 11 in his first line to connect the invasion of Iraq to that day.
That seems typical of the Republican reply, even while President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld deny the connection. Then Gibbons went to the weapons of mass destruction reason, saying a trail of paper was found showing Saddam "had" a weapons program. Yet the Bush administration has already said that it's not likely that any WMD will be found. And Hans Blix, who headed the United Nations weapons inspection team in Iraq, has said that Saddam destroyed his WMD after the first Gulf War.
The reasons are pure and simple for Bush attacking Iraq: Revenge for daddy and oil for his buddies.
But then again it is nice to see the Bush administration coming up with an economic program. To bad it's for Iraq and not the United States.
