Letter: Harter does nothing but dream at UNLV
Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 | 8:49 a.m.
I get the idea that UNLV President Carol Harter suffers from tunnel vision. Quite some time ago she announced her aspirations for turning UNLV into a research institution to rival Stanford and MIT, as I remember.
She has recently revived the mantra, but now she has UCLA in her sights. In the meantime, it's hard to find anything she's done to shore up the institution that is there now. If it weren't for her attempts at micro-managing the athletic program, we'd hear little of her at all.
There's much that needs doing at UNLV other than chasing a pipe dream and following the teams, but I see little evidence that Ms. Harter sees any of it as important and worthy of her attention.
