Letter: Gibbons merely covering for Bush
Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003 | 8:49 a.m.
Sunday's Las Vegas Sun carried "Yes" and "No" articles under the common headline, "Is U.S. on the right track in Iraq?" Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., authored the "Yes" article, which was one more sign of the Republican rhetoric handed out by Washington.
Mr. Gibbons goes on and on about how Saddam's regime possessed this and did that and the possibility of weapons falling into the hands of terrorists. In the entire article, Mr. Gibbons never once mentions al-Qaida or bin Laden. And I thought these were the real reasons we went to war.
Now, all the terrorism seems to be coming from Iraq. If the president and all his men had planned better and used more diplomacy with all our allies, America would not be in the situation it now finds itself, a constant target.
President Bush has many people like Jim Gibbons to cover his tracks around the country about why he invaded Iraq -- just like Saddam has people to hide him in his country.
