Meeting planned on proposed auction of land

Las Vegas residents will hear an overview Wednesday of plans for three parcels of land now managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management but requested by the city to be sold in auction.

The Charleston Neighborhood Preservation Association is holding an informational meeting on the plans 7 p.m. Wednesday at Garside Junior High School, 300 Torrey Pines Drive.

According to the agenda documentation prepared for the Wednesday meeting of the Las Vegas City Council, the land -- three parcels totaling 17.5 acres -- previously had been considered for parks, but no longer is on the priority list.

The three pieces are 7.5 acres near Westcliff Drive and Tenaya Way and two pieces totaling 10 acres adjacent to the Summerlin Parkway, between Durango and Buffalo drives.

"This is a landlocked area here, so anytime the city is trying to get land from the BLM, we're excited and interested in the use," Juanita Clark, a Charleston Neighborhood Preservation Association board member, said.
