Barbecue to benefit Opportunity Village

Opportunity Village will hold the 11th annual Miss Kitty's Jeans to Jewels at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bitter Root Ranch, 6828 Rio Vista St.

The event is a Texas-style barbecue, compliments of Station Casinos, with western entertainment, hosted by OV board member, Frank Martin.

Roadrunner Saloons, Sunset Canyon, Southern Wine and Spirits, GES Exposition, Paris-Bally's, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas' Food and Beverage Department, and Border Grill will also support the event.

Tickets are $150.

High Holy services will be broadcast

Temple Beth Sholom will broadcast the Jewish High Holy services from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday on KLAV 1230-AM.

The service will be conducted by Rabbi Felipe Goodman and Cantor Daniel Friedman of Temple Beth Sholom.

Printed guide books to follow along with services are free and available by calling 804-1333 in advance while supplies last.

Golf tournament to help flood victims

The Southern Nevada Multi-Housing Association will host the SNMA Golf Classic/Pro-AM beginning with a Pro-Am tournament at 6:30 Friday at the Silver Stone Golf Course to benefit the Southern Nevada Disaster Relief Fund.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward the new charity that benefits residents who are displaced from their apartment homes due to flood, fire or other disaster.

The event will include chipping contests, golf cart races and putting contests.

Participants can join the pros for $750 a team, or enjoy the SNMA Classic for $600 per team.

Refuse To Be a Victim seminar set

A seminar and instructor development workshop for the National Rifle Association's Refuse To Be a Victim crime prevention program, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Cadillac of Las Vegas, 2711 E. Sahara Ave.

Refuse To Be A Victim seminars promote awareness and prevention of criminal confrontations. Seminar topics include: home, automobile, phone, travel and personal security.

Seminar participants are presented with a variety of common-sense crime prevention and personal safety strategies and devices they may integrate into their daily lives. The co-ed seminar is three to four hours long, is open to the public, and is free courtesy of the Nevada Friends of NRA state fund committee and the NRA Foundation Inc.
