Camp would help boy improve in areas of schoolwork, discipline
Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 | 4:25 a.m.
A student at West Middle School has seen his schoolwork and discipline in school improve since joining a Boy Scout troop, and his scout leader thinks camp will continue that improvement.
The boy "has shown a real proactive approach to scouting and is currently a second class scout," the leader writes. "Camping and scout activities as a whole have explosed him to a different level of personal awareness, and his attendance of summer camp will continue in his development."
The scoutmaster adds that the boy's family cannot afford to send him or his brother to camp. His father has a disability and depends on a single income.
"Your approval will greatly assist this child," the leader writes.
The Sun Summer Camp Fund provides scholarships for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend camp. The Las Vegas Sun covers all administrative costs, so every donated dollar goes directly to camp tuition.
Sometimes simple things, such as toasting marshmallows and singing around the campfire and spending time around camp counselors who are positive role models are the memories that children will carry with her through the rest of their lives.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you can make a difference in a child's life.
