Letter: Diva title must be earned

Today we hear all the time about young women singer/dancers and they are always called divas. Here is the dictionary explanation of a diva: "A prima donna, leading woman singer, especially in grand opera." Here is the definition of prima donna: "The principal woman singer in an opera."

The dictionary, in its definitions of diva, makes no reference to a singer who shows her belly button. My wife took singing lessons as a child. She performed in many events in her teen years. She had a beautiful soprano voice, but she never considered herself as being a diva or prima donna.

Let's save titles such as diva and prima donna for people who really deserve this kind of acclaim.
