Film festival
A George Sidney Film Festival will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday at Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the UNLV campus. Ticket prices are to be announced. 895-1575.
Starlight movie series
The Clark County Parks and Community Services Department presents "The Starlight Movie Series" today at Paradise Park at Tropicana and McLeod. The free movie begins at 8:30 p.m. Bring picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs, but no alcohol or pets. 455-8278.
Free movie
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" at 7 p.m. today in the ampitheatre at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, as part of its series of family events. The event is free. 507-3613.
Celebration
A Mexican Independence Day celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Freedom Park, East Washington and Mojave Road. Tickets are $5 for adults and free to children 12 and under. 649-1198.
Appreciation day
The 10th annual Thai Performing Arts Appreciation Day will be held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is free, but tickets are required. 229-6383.
Ice cream festival
Summerlin will hold its 14th annual "All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Summerlin Centre Community Park, 1800 Town Center Drive. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 5 and older. Children under 5 are admitted free. 933-7777.
Lecture
The Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art is hosting a lecture and tea titled, "Chatsworth: Britain's Finest Treasure House," at 11 a.m. Sunday at Bellagio. Admission is $20. 693-7871 or (877) 957-9777.
Film screening
The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents the movie "Frida" at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd., as part of National Hispanic Heritage Month. The event is free. 507-3940.

Art contest
Entries are being accepted for a competition sponsored by the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society to complement the museum's "Neon Unplugged: Signs from the Boneyard" exhibit. The deadline is Oct. 1. Pieces entered will be displayed from Nov. 1 through Jan. 18, and the winner will receive $250. 486-5205, ext. 227.
Sculpture contest
Entries are being accepted for a sculpture contest held by the Pulidor Foundation/Spirit of the Nations, in preparation for its second annual Native American Arts & International Film Festival from Nov. 14-16.
