Several LV events to mark Sept. 11
Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 | 8:58 a.m.
For Las Vegans who are looking for ways to publicly remember Sept. 11, 2001, a number of groups are holding events.
The city of Las Vegas has planned four events, similar to last year. City spokesman David Riggleman said he is not sure if the particular events will become annual, but he doesn't think the city will allow the day to pass unnoticed.
"I can't imagine we would not commemorate the day each year," he said.
The Metro Police Department is also holding a candlelight ceremony, in conjunction with the Las Vegas and Clark County fire departments, 7 p.m. at Police Memorial Park, 3250 Metro Academy Way.
Officer Tina Ellison, Metro spokeswoman, said the day should continue to be remembered, similar to the way Americans continue to remember veterans on Veterans Day.
"It is the right thing to do," she said. "It's important we not forget the men and women who died on 9-11."
