Letter: President cried wolf about Iraq
Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 | 9:02 a.m.
President Bush cried wolf on Iraq and weapons of mass destruction. In doing so, he has caused death and injury to many Americans.
He made allusions to 9-11 when he was galvanizing the war machine, although Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 -- congressional and CIA reports subsequently revealed there was no such evidence.
It is interesting to compare the American casualties: Three thousand people died on Sept. 11. In Iraq more than 300 American soldiers have died so far and more than 1,500 American soldiers have been injured. The death rate is significantly above one-a-day at present. Thus, in one more year, the sum of American injured and dead will greatly surpass the casualties of the airline hijackings.
Bush said "bring them on," only creating more more harm for our troops over in Iraq, and guess what, they did exactly what Bush asked for -- they brought more violence on upon our troops. Thank you, President Bush, for your big mouth.
The entire purpose of invading Iraq was sold as a means to protect us from Sept. 11-like events in the future. Since President Bush can and never will never admit making a major mistake, you can bet that we will get another year of casualties.
In "protecting" the American people by invading Iraq, Bush has caused the very catastrophe he said that he was trying to prevent. Of course, the casualties in Iraq are not wealthy stockbrokers and oil company executives, but just GI Joes. Maybe like the thousands of Iraqi civilian dead, they just don't count as much.
