Teen indicted in gang probe pulled from football roster
Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 | 11:03 a.m.
Anthony Gallion, one of nine teens indicted in the 311 Boyz investigation, has been pulled from Shadow Ridge High School's football roster until the resolution of the criminal charges against him, Clark County Schools Superintendent Carlos Garcia confirmed this morning.
The same athletics ban will apply to any other Clark County School District students indicted as part of the 311 Boyz police investigation, Garcia said.
The nine teens, all current or former students of Centennial High School, face felony charges in an attack on other teenagers with rocks at a July 18 party. One of the victims was so severely injured that his face had to be reconstructed with titanium plates.
"For their protection and the protection of others, this is the appropriate action to take," Garcia said. "We're in an akward position, because none of (the alleged crimes) occurred during school time, it happened over the summer.
"They're entitled to be in school, and everyone's innocent until proven guilty. But playing sports is a privilege, not a right. And for now we're denying that privilege."
