Letter: All Nevadans must pay their fair share of taxes
Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 | 8:50 a.m.
As a lifelong Democrat, I oppose a recall of Gov. Kenny Guinn. It is a ridiculous move. The governor has acted responsibly.
This recall mania is an insult to people who understand the responsibility of government. No government can exist without taxes and I, for one, do not mind paying my fair share.
Would it be better to have no effective police department, no fire department, no jails, no judicial system and no schools up to today's standards? Get real!
We did not move here to avoid paying taxes. We came because we had been coming here since 1947 and we liked the town and its people. It seemed to us that when someone was in dire trouble the people pitched in to help.
After retiring we wanted to escape the wild and crowded freeways of Los Angeles. Little did we know that all these tax haters would move here and change the ambience of Las Vegas. Living here is not a free ride. Each one of us must pay his fair share, like it or not.
