Fall’s finest feted at Harvest Festival
Friday, Sept. 5, 2003 | 4:01 a.m.
Arts and crafts connoisseurs can partake of everything from designer jewelry to homemade fudge at the 16th annual Las Vegas Harvest Festival through Sunday at Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
"It's a really special show. There is a high quality of items," Brenda Meehan, a spokeswoman for the event, said.
More than 18,000 people are expected to attend the event and more than 250 exhibitors will be on hand selling
shortbread, and spices to carved wood and copper kitchen utensils, quilts and many other craft and food items, said Meehan.
Today the event runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sunday it is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. General admission is $7.50 and $6.50 for seniors. Admission for children ages 6 to 12 is $4.50. One ticket can be used all weekend.
The festival also offers $1 off general admission for those who bring a can of food, baby food or formula for the Safe Nest organization. Discounts will also be issued with a coupon from newspapers or Harvest Festival fliers.
Entertainment includes music from the Washbord Willie, Dixieland jazz bands, A Cappella groups, marionettes and jugglers.
The festival also features local artwork from artists Alan and Julie Morgan. Their photographic images of Africa's people and wildlife were taken when the couple went on safaris in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya.
