Letter: Kenny is ‘simply a disgrace’
Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 | 9:06 a.m.
I applaud Erin Neff and the Las Vegas Sun for the well-researched analysis of Erin Kenny's political career ("Erin being Erin," Aug. 31). It is only regrettable the information in the article wasn't known by voters before now.
I am saddened to read of yet another Las Vegas politician who chose to hold office for selfish reasons rather than service in the community. Unfortunately, Erin Kenny epitomizes everything that is despicable in so many of our representatives at all levels of government. It's a shame, because she had the credentials to make a competent public servant. She apparently, however, chose to seek personal gain at the expense of the community she represented.
I served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 29 years. I did so for many reasons, but primarily because I considered it an honor and privilege to do so. What happened to politicians who feel the same way and who hold office to advocate in the best interests of their constituents? What happened to what Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who endured six years as a prisoner of war, describes as the "honor of serving something greater than self interest?"
Erin Kenny certainly doesn't know the answers. She is simply a disgrace. I must continue to hope that most people who seek public office do so for the right reason.
