Columnist Brian Hilderbrand: Part-time rocker Kenny Brack of IRL has a CD

Brian Hilderbrand covers motor sports for the Las Vegas Sun. His motor sports notebook appears Friday. He can be reached at [email protected] or (702) 259-4089.

In addition to "Indy Racing League champion" and "Indianapolis 500 winner," Kenny Brack now can add "recording artist" to his list of accomplishments.

Brack, who has played pre- and post-race concerts at various race venues as lead guitarist for his rock band Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers, has released a 12-song live CD that was recorded during a concert at Nashville Superspeedway in July. All proceeds from the sale of the CD will go to Championship Auto Racing Auxiliary (CARA) charities.

"(The band) was put together in the beginning of the year as a relaxing thing on the side of the racing, plus the opportunity to reach fans in a very exciting way," said Brack, a native of Arvika, Sweden.

"It has grown a little bit more than (expected) because the CD wasn't planned from the beginning; that's something that Pioneer decided to do because they were pleased with what they heard."

Pioneer Electronics is one of the sponsors on Brack's Team Rahal Dallara/Honda in the IRL.

Brack, 37, is not the only member of the seven-piece band with a racing background. Lead singer Kathy Prather and rhythm guitarist Laz Denes handle media relations for Greg Ray's Access Motorsports and Mo Nunn Racing, respectively, in the IRL.

The other four members are professional musicians, Brack said, "and they hold the band together.

"With relatively little rehearsal, we manage to sound real good. The CD we recorded is a live record ... and the way it came out, I'm really pleased and proud of the final product."

The CD "Kenny Brack and the Subwoofers -- Live at Nashville" can be purchased online at www.caracharities.org.
