Man pleads guilty in killing of wife, boyfriend

A Las Vegas man accused of killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend will receive a sentence of life without parole under a plea agreement reached last week.

Richard Armstrong, 45, pleaded guilty to all counts including one count of burglary, two counts of attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon, one count of battery with use of a deadly weapon and two counts of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon, District Attorney David Roger said.

Armstrong pleaded guilty to gunning down his estranged wife, Bonita Armstrong, 43, and her boyfriend, Andre Marcus, 30, on March 25, 2001. He also shot and wounded two of his four children.

His trial had been scheduled to begin today. Prosecutors had been seeking the death penalty.

Roger said that the victims' families were satisfied with the resolution. He said he wanted to save the victim's children the trauma of testifying in court.

"My concern was for the victim's children," Roger said. "All four were scheduled to testify against their father."
