Fishing Report — High winds slow fishing at lake

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks report that due to the breezy weather conditions, fishing pressure dropped off from the previous week.

They also reported that even though there was an abundance of threadfin shad throughout the lake, larger striped bass were not being caught.

Anglers fishing Hemenway Harbor were successful landing small stripers that ranged 1-2 pounds. Threadfin shad and top-water lures were landing the fish.

Boaters fishing the Boulder Beach area reported good success for stripers that averaged 2 pounds. Anchovies were the bait of choice.

Shore anglers fishing in the vicinity of the Lake Mead Marina and the 33-Hole area continued to be successful landing striped bass that ranged 1 1/2-2 pounds. A few catfish that ranged 1 1/2-2 pounds were also taken in the area. The fish were taken with shad, anchovies and top-water lures. Anglers report the best time to be successful is still the early morning and evening hours.

Anglers fishing Cottonwood Cove continued to have good success for striped bass and catfish. One angler landed a catfish that weighed in at 21 pounds and measured 33 inches. The fish was caught at night at a depth of 40 feet. Anchovies were the bait of choice.

Anglers reported moderate success landing a few stocked rainbow trout at Cold Springs Reservoir. The fish were taken with PowerBait.

Anglers fishing Haymeadow Reservoir said that fishing was rather slow.

Daytime temperatures were in the high 70s while nights were in the low 30s.

Daytime temperatures were in the mid 60s while nights were dropping into the low 20s.
