First lady's health conference set

Southern Nevada Area Health Education Center and the Nevada State Health Division will present the 2003 First Lady's Conference at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday through Nov. 7 at Cashman Center.

The three-day conference will focus on breast and cervical cancer, mental health, abuse issues, chronic disease, HIV/AIDS and peri-menopause issues. Call 808-9195.

Lecture addresses care of parents

Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services is offering a free lecture, Caring for Aging Parents -- Achieving Balance in Coping with Conflicting Demands, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the West Las Vegas Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.

The topic is to explore some of the challenges that arise from caring for, or about, parents as they age, and to discover community resources to enhance your quality of life as well as theirs.

High School Ministries will host a special Gravity party from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday at 1001 New Beginnings Drive. The party will offer a costume contest, and all guests wearing costumes will receive $1 of the $5 admission fee. The Ladies of Oriental Shrine

The Department of Veterans Affairs

is offering free flu shots to all eligible veterans. The West, Southwest, Central, East, Northwest and Pahrump clinics will accept walk-in appointments from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for the shots. The North clinic, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the Henderson clinic offers shots 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
