Man shot to death in LV home

Metro Police were investigating a homicide early today in which a man phoned authorities to say he had been in an argument with his roommate, who later died at a Las Vegas hospital.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 4800 block of Mountain Valley Road near East Tropicana Avenue and McLeod Street.

Initially police said the caller said he had shot his roommate. However, Metro Homicide Lt. Tom Monahan later said the man phoned to say that there was an argument going on between the two men.

In addition to the call, police patrol units in the area responded to a burglar alarm at the residence, Monahan said.

Police found a 29-year-old man on the porch outside the home "bleeding profusely," Monahan said, noting that first aid was given to the man, who was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police obtained a search warrant and recovered a hand gun they believe is the weapon that was used in the incident, Monahan said.

No arrests had been made as of early today. The incident remains under investigation, Monahan said.

Coroner identifies shooting victim

A homeless man found shot to death near homes at Mesquite and Eastern avenues early Monday has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Olester Viveros, 35.

The coroner's office said today the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

Metro Police responded to the area shortly before 2 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of a bloodied man knocking on doors saying he had been shot in the arm and asking for help for a friend he said also had been shot.

Police arrived on the scene to find Viveros dead.
