Henderson approves land plan for college

The Henderson City Council unanimously approved a land use policy plan change Tuesday night that will allow the Nevada State College to develop 550 acres for its proposed campus at Nevada State and Paradise Hills drives.

The land use change amends the Mission Hills planning area from a low-density residential and industrial park to public/semi-public use.

Spencer Stewart, director of Nevada State College relations, said the college plans to release designs for the first buildings on the site by mid-November.

City planners have proposed a mini-downtown with shops, offices and apartments adjacent to the campus.

The college is currently operating in temporarily facilities at a renovated vitamin factory near the future site.
