Program offers help with diabetes
In recognition of National Diabetes Awareness Month, St. Rose Dominican Hospital will host an event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday to provide information on the disease, its complications and ways to prevent or effectively manage it.
The program will be held in the hospital's MacDonald Conference Center, 3001 St. Rose Parkway, Henderson.
The free English and Hispanic Diabetes Health fair will include information on diabetes-related eye disease, foot care and diet information. Also being offered are blood sugar checks, blood pressure screenings, hearing checks, foot exams, cholesterol checks for $5 (8 hour fast required), samples of sugar free snacks, and tips for reducing stress, blood sugar and weight through low impact exercise.
Various representatives will display the latest in blood sugar monitors as well.

Safe street event set for Halloween
Century 21 MoneyWorld will host "Haunted Open House," a safe street Halloween event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 7230 W. Lake Mead Blvd. (Wild Oaks Shopping Center).
The event is open to the public, past and present clients, family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.
Activities will include games, balloons, photos, entertainment and refreshments.

The Mural Project Committee,
a cooperative effort between the Henderson Redevelopement office and the Henderson Art Association, will hold its first fund-raiser from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St., Henderson. Catholic Charities Child Care Center
invites the community to its Open House and Halloween Oktoberfest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at 451 Twain Ave. Refreshments will be served and prizes will be awarded for the best Halloween costumes. Call 735-4358.
Entertainer Dennis Bono
will be honored by the members of Club Italia beginning with a no-host bar at 5 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Grand Ballroom at Texas Station. The award is given to an Italian-American for their achievements and contributions to society in their field of endeavor. Call 341-8422 no later than Saturday.
