Letter: Radio hosts have no credibility on issue of war
Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 | 8:52 a.m.
The incredible number of right-wing conservative talk shows is almost impossible to ignore each time we turn on our radios. Producers of these shows would have us believe that the "hosts" are highly educated and have all the answers.
These rocket-scientist hosts all encourage sending our military men and women into harm's way, telling us that this is necessary for our country's safety. They especially support sending them into President Bush's "all about oil and revenge" disaster in Iraq, a country that had nothing to do with Sept. 11. They deplore solving world problems with intelligent diplomacy.
Do these hosts have any credibility whatsoever? Almost without exception, these characters were former disc jockeys who spent years spinning records on the Top 40 rock 'n' roll radio shows before this format was somehow transformed into talk radio.
And despite their warlike stance, and to paraphrase an old proverb, it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to find even one of these conservative talk-show babblers who have served even one day in the military. So their inane warmongering is highly offensive to those of us who have actually served our country in the military.
The majority of loyal, patriotic Americans who wish to remain current and informed will continue to read history and civics books, patronize our libraries and bookstores, watch unbiased C-Span and read excellent newspapers like our Las Vegas Sun.
