Letter: Master plans must be trusted

The American Dream has become a nightmare in the city of Las Vegas. We all know Las Vegas is a gambling town, but why does buying a home in an area zoned residential become a crap shoot?
Developer Irwin Molasky wants to put a 42,500-square-foot Social Security office complex in the middle of a residential community. Do we need a 42,500-square-foot commercial building on Buffalo Drive across from Buffalo Park? The area is zoned for one-half acre lots. With all the vacant land and commercial property on Sahara Avenue, the Social Security building has to go here?
Why not put this building on Mayor Oscar Goodman's redevelopment land in downtown Las Vegas? That would be more centrally located to better serve the Las Vegas Valley. Is the almighty dollar really king? This is pure profiteering at the expense of the people living in the area. Why call it a master plan? A better name would be Maybe Plan.
Why check zoning surrounding your property before buying, when the zoning is written in sand? When will the city of Las Vegas grow up and see that it is now planting the seeds of urban decay? A master plan should be written in granite and you should have to move a mountain to change it.
It is the families who make a community, not spot zone changes by a developer. What do we do to correct the vision of City Hall?
