All-Star forward Antoine Walker was traded today by the Boston Celtics to the Dallas Mavericks in a five-player deal.
Dallas is sending Raef LaFrentz, who signed a $69 million, five-year deal before last season, to the Celtics with Jiri Welsch and Chris Mills, players the Mavericks got in an offseason trade that also brought Antawn Jamison from Golden State.
Boston also will get Dallas' first-round pick in 2004. The Mavericks will get guard Tony Delk.
Walker, a three-time All-Star who averaged 17.3 points and 8.7 rebounds last season, will split time with All-Star Dirk Nowitzki and Jaimson.
Els wins Match Play
Ernie Els won a record-tying fifth World Match Play title Sunday at Virginia Water, England, defeating Thomas Bjorn 4 and 3. Els was three holes ahead after the first 18 and held on during the second 18 on the West Course at Wentworth despite a late hole in one by Bjorn.
Judge delays Clarett
Maurice Clarett's preliminary hearing on allegations he lied on a theft report was postponed today so a judge could decide whether to bar information from a separate NCAA probe of the suspended Ohio State running back.
Wranglers sit at 1-1-1
A 4-1 loss at Idaho Sunday gave the Las Vegas Wranglers a 1-1-1 record headed into Tuesday night's home opener at the Orleans Arena. Jason McBain scored for the Wranglers.
Henin-Herdenne No. 1
Justine Henin-Hardenne became the No. 1 player in women's tennis after winning the Swisscom Challenge, 6-0, 6-4, against Jelena Dokic at Zurich.
