DETROIT -- MGM MIRAGE'S MGM Grand Detroit Casino was fined $225,000 Tuesday night for serving free alcohol to high rollers during charity parties, the Detroit News reported Wednesday.
Detroit casinos aren't allowed to serve free alcohol to gamblers.
The newspaper reported that in addition to the fine, MGM Grand also must pay $75,000 in administrative and investigative costs to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, for a total of $300,000.
The newspaper reported that in a statement, MGM MIRAGE said: "These violations were the result of a good faith but mistaken assumption about the operation of the Michigan liquor code, rather than a deliberate attempt to violate the law."
