Letter: GOP just shifting the tax burden
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 | 8:53 a.m.
Republicans are convinced that almost all government is wasteful and because of that taxes can and should be reduced and eliminated. Now that doesn't mean they are against their pet projects: defense, NASA, "Star Wars," etc. They just don't want to pay for them.
When it comes to senior citizens, schools, security and streets, they give them lip service, often mandating programs in Washington without providing financial support. Therefore, the money Nevadans save in federal taxes must be given to local governments to support state, county and city projects.
I think GOP stands for "Getting Out of Paying" needed federal taxes.
