Letter: Time to stop out-of-control growth in valley
Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 | 5:37 a.m.
I have lived in Las Vegas with my family for the past 40 years. During that time we have watched as our city and county leaders repeatedly voted in favor of developers and out-of-control growth.
Many times our leaders turned a blind eye to public opposition, master planning and overburdened schools and roads while voting contrary to what was in the community's best interest.
Now we face even more critical times as our valley's water resources are drying up. Residents and businesses alike are being asked to do what's in the best interest of our town and conserve water. Yet, with this in mind, our city and county leaders have continued to approve the same kind of rampant development that got our valley into this mess in the first place. Just take a drive around our city if you need to see for yourself.
The time has come for our elected city and county leaders to consider the best interests of our valley and prevent the out-of-control growth they've allowed in the past, so that Southern Nevada doesn't suffer the same fate as some of the other, larger metropolitan areas in our neighboring state to the west.
